In the center of Celje stands a statue of Alma Karlin, a world traveler, writer, poet, and collector who traveled the world between 1919 and 1927. She traveled alone, continuously for eight years, supporting herself through her own work. The nature of her journey places her among the greatest travelers of all time.

The Alma M. Karlin Memorial House is located in Pečovnik, where Alma spent the final years of her life together with Thea Gammelin. It houses the permanent exhibition “The Solitary Journey of Alma M. Karlin.” The memorial house is accessible via a footpath leading from Zagrad to Celjska koča and is open from May to the end of September every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The house is closed in case of bad or unstable weather.
