Activities

Hiking

Celje and its surroundings offer countless hiking trails – perfect for beginners as well as seasoned mountain lovers.

The Camino Trail

Across Kunigunda Hill runs a pilgrim route we call the Jakobova pot, a branch of the world famous Camino de Santiago. This trail guides pilgrims, hikers, and cyclists through Slovenia all the way to Galicia in Spain. Look for the iconic scallop shell markers along the path – a symbol recognised by travellers everywhere.

Cycling

Thanks to its varied terrain, Celje is an excellent starting point for cycling adventures. Tourists and visitors explore routes that lead to cultural and natural landmarks, while athletes and recreational riders can take roads to nearby destinations – such as Lake Šmartinsko, the Old Castle, Anski Vrh, Kunigunda Hill, Šmohor, Brnica, Svetina, and Celjska koča.

Celje Castle

The largest medieval castle in Slovenia, Celje Castle has stood as a fortress overlooking the town since the late 12th century. Famous as the home of the Counts of Celje, Slovenia's most influential ruling dynasty, it invites visitors to explore thrilling legends, exhibitions, and interactive experiences bring history vividly to life.

Alma Karlin

In the heart of Celje stands the statue of Alma Karlin – world traveller, writer, poet, and collector who journeyed across the globe from1919 to 1927. She spent eight continuous years travelling, often earning her living along the way.

Her legacy lives on at the Alma M. Karlin Memorial House in Pečovnik, where she spent her final years with Thea Gammelin. The permanent exhibition “The Lonely Journey of Alma M. Karlin” is open from May to September, every Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00 (weather permitting).

Scenic Flight by Plane

Just 10 km from Posest Kunigunda, soar across the valley in a Cessna 172. Pilot plus three passengers – you choose the route or follow our suggested destinations and see the world from a new perspective.

Thermana Laško

The Thermana Laško Thermal Complex is the ultimate spot for relaxation and regeneration. Perfect for a day trip: swim under the iconic glass dome, float in the lazy river, ride the water slides, or unwind in whirlpools and the wave pool. Don't miss the wellness centre or a taste of local specialties – including the famous Laško Honey Cake, found only here.

Beer Fountain – Green Gold

The Green Gold Beer Fountain in Žalec celebrates the hop-growing heritage of the Savinja Valley – Slovenia’s hop capital. Slovenia ranks as the world’s fifth-largest hop producer, and hops are what gives beer its distinctive flavour and character.

Blending tradition with modernity, the fountain is both a one- of-a-kind tourist attraction and a symbol of the region’s vibrant future.

Gostilna Privošnik

Gostilna Privošnik is a historic coaching inn with over 150 years of tradition. Today, the 4th and 5th generations of the Privošnik family continue to serve authentic Savinja Valley flavours: seasonal produce, garden vegetables, homemade meats, the famous Savinja stomach sausage, crispy fried chicken, and hearty comfort dishes.
